Smoky Earl Grey

Black tea kissed by smoke and brightened with bergamot.

Smoky Earl Grey is a bold reinterpretation of a timeless classic. A pinewood-smoked blend of organic black and white tea leaves meets a vibrant citrus kiss, creating a cup that clears the mind and awakens the senses.

Composition : Organic black tea, organic white tea with a smoky aroma, organic juniper berries, organic bergamot oil, organic orange oil.

Brewing instructions : Pour over freshly boiled water (approx. 100°C) and steep for 2–3 minutes.

Remember — your tea will only be as good as the water you use to brew it.

Smoky Earl Grey by Piag Tea – A Surprising Interpretation

Flavor : Each cup delivers a deep, satisfying body, while the addition of white tea introduces a sensual smoky nuance that lingers gently on the palate. Bergamot brings a smooth, aromatic citrus brightness that lifts the overall profile, balancing the heavier smoky tones with a refreshing finish.

The result? A tea full of character and complexity — the perfect choice for those who seek a bold, expressive cup.

Well-being : Black tea offers numerous beneficial properties. Thanks to its natural caffeine content, it stimulates and enhances concentration. It’s rich in antioxidants that help protect the body against free radicals and support overall vitality. Add to that the power of bergamot — a true citrus treasure — and you have a cup that feels as good as it tastes.

Packaging :Smoky Earl Grey by Piag Tea comes in an elegant tin designed to adorn any kitchen. The striking artwork was created by illustrator and designer Katarzyna Korzeniowska. Each tin is individually labeled and packed by hand. Everything we do — we do with love.

For Those Who Love a Good Story

This distinctive version of Earl Grey was reportedly created at the special request of a Palace whose residents desired a tea stronger and more aromatic than the traditional blend. In 1935, the request allegedly read:

“The Palace wishes for an Earl Grey with real bite.”

We owe gratitude to George V, who reigned at the time — his demand is said to have inspired a truly exclusive interpretation of Earl Grey.

A Tale from Buckingham Palace

At Buckingham Palace, tea was never just a beverage — it was practically a matter of state. Each misty London afternoon, as the clocks struck five, silver teapots would steam so intensely that some swore they saw the silhouettes of Queen Victoria or George V in the rising vapor.

“Earl Grey for Her Majesty” — perhaps the most frequently heard phrase within palace walls.

Named after 19th-century Prime Minister Charles Grey, the blend became a favorite among British elites. Over time, the aroma of bergamot turned into a symbol of aristocratic calm and refinement.

Legend even has it that Elizabeth II could recognize Earl Grey by scent faster than a prime minister could recognize the ring of a phone from Downing Street.

One day, a new footman accidentally served plain black tea instead.

Silence fell.

The Queen lifted her cup, reflected for a moment, and then said gently:
“Well, this is a very fine tea… but it lacks diplomacy.”

From that day on, no one ever dared to mix up the tins again. At Buckingham Palace, one might confuse the date of an ambassador’s visit — but never, ever the variety of Earl Grey
