More about the product

Yunnan Golden Monkey – Nobility Has Its Obligations

Golden Monkey, a tea with an intriguing name, comes from Yunnan – China’s most beautiful province, also called Dianhong, the “Land of Eternal Spring” and the birthplace of tea. Rich in golden tips, its leaves are said to resemble monkey claws, fangs, or paws. According to legend, specially trained monkeys once picked the leaves from wild tea bushes and trees growing high in the mountains, at an altitude of 1,200 meters.

Let yourself be tempted – not only by the name, but above all by its breathtaking taste!

For Tea Lovers – A Touch of History

Golden Monkey, also known as Jin Hou, is a rare and noble variety of Chinese black tea, cherished for its delicate taste, floral aroma, and distinctive golden buds. Its story dates back to the Qing Dynasty (1644–1912) and is deeply woven into Chinese culture and tradition.

Cultivation of Golden Monkey began in Yunnan Province, in the lush, mist-covered mountains of southwest China. With its mild climate, fertile soil, and abundant rainfall, the region provides perfect conditions for growing tea. The name Golden Monkey comes from its golden buds, which are covered with fine down resembling the fur of a golden monkey. Golden Monkey is one of the most precious black teas in the world. Its rarity and value come from the painstaking harvesting process: only the youngest buds are picked by hand, and only the finest leaves are selected for production. This labor of love ensures the tea’s unmatched quality and refinement.

The Legend of Courage and Friendship

In the heart of Yunnan, where the sky touches the mountain peaks, there once lay a village famous for its golden-budded tea. The villagers lived in harmony with nature, passing down the secrets of tea cultivation from one generation to the next.

But legend tells of a time when a fierce dragon named Shenlong haunted a cave high in the mountains. He terrorized the villagers, demanding tribute in gold. Living in fear, the people worked endlessly to satisfy his greed. One day, a brave young boy named Li set out to end the dragon’s tyranny. Armed only with a bow, arrows, and a heart full of courage, he faced Shenlong in a fierce battle.

With speed and wit, Li evaded the dragon’s fiery attacks until, at last, he struck a fatal blow. Shenlong fell, transforming into golden dust that scattered across the wind. From the place where the dragon fell, tea bushes with golden-tipped leaves began to grow. In gratitude, the villagers named this extraordinary tea Golden Monkey, honoring Li’s bravery and the bond of friendship that united them. Golden Monkey was said to warm both body and soul, strengthen the spirit, and clear the mind. From that day on, it became a symbol of courage, friendship, and the triumph of good over evil. The villagers shared their tea with travelers, and soon its fame spread far and wide.

To this day, Golden Monkey is celebrated for its exceptional flavor and aroma – and the legend of Li reminds us of the enduring values of courage, loyalty, and sacrifice.
