If You Like to Know More – Curiosities for Connoisseurs

Lung Ching tea is cultivated in the traditional way, with great care for every step of the process. The leaves are hand-picked in early spring, when they are still young and delicate. They are then sun-dried and later pan-roasted in special woks, which protects the long, flat green leaves from breaking. This unique process gives Lung Ching its remarkable uniformity, signature flavor, and exquisite aroma.

It is one of the most famous and highly esteemed green teas in the world. Originating from China’s Zhejiang province, it is especially beloved in Sichuan. Grown on mountain slopes with the perfect climate, Lung Ching has earned its reputation as a tea of distinction.

The Legend of the Dragon’s Well and Lung Ching Tea

Long ago, when mythical creatures still roamed the earth and mountains guarded hidden treasures, there lived an emperor named Qianlong in the province of Zhejiang. He was renowned for his wisdom and fairness — and for his love of travel and discovery of new flavors. One spring day, Emperor Qianlong journeyed to the picturesque Longjing mountains. While wandering the steep slopes, he stumbled upon a hidden well among the rocks. The water was so clear and pure that the emperor named it the Dragon’s Well. Beside the well grew lush tea bushes with vivid emerald leaves. Intrigued, the emperor plucked a few leaves and brewed a cup of tea. The infusion was delicate, subtly sweet, and carried a mesmerizing fragrance that enchanted him instantly.

According to legend, a benevolent dragon lived in the well, guarding the secret of Lung Ching. It was the dragon who blessed the tea bushes with their extraordinary taste and aroma. Captivated, Emperor Qianlong declared the tea a divine gift and ordered that it be delivered to the imperial court. From that moment on, Lung Ching became a  symbol of imperial power and luxury. Drinking this tea was believed to bring good fortune, health, and longevity. To this very day, Lung Ching remains one of the world’s most treasured teas, and its legend continues to inspire tea lovers to discover its unique taste and timeless charm.
