African Earl Grey

A sun-filled, citrus infusion of African herbs – rooibos and honeybush.

Deep down, we all long for Africa—the cradle of humanity. Its vast open spaces, the closeness of untamed nature, and the sense of connection that unites all people on Earth. The same life force flows through plants and animals alike.

May this honey-citrus infusion of rooibos and honeybush satisfy our longing for community. Ubuntu – "I am because we are."

Human being, you are not alone. Feel it!

Ingredients: rooibos (PDO – Protected Designation of Origin), honeybush, natural flavouring, calendula petals.

Instructions: Brewing temperature – 100°C, steeping time – 8–10 minutes.

Please remember that your tea will be only as good as the water you use to brew it.

African Earl Grey – Velvety Delight

Taste: The natural sweetness of rooibos and honeybush envelops the palate from the very first sip. The infusion is exceptionally smooth, free from bitterness and astringency. The characteristic note of bergamot comes to the forefront—fresh, citrusy, and delicately floral. It does not dominate the composition, however, but instead brings an elegant lightness that beautifully complements the honeyed notes of the red shrubs. African Earl Grey delights with its harmony. It is a flavour that lingers on the palate, leaving a pleasant memory of honey, bergamot peel, and the warm, woody notes of rooibos.

Wellness: African Earl Grey is a blend that combines the pleasure of drinking with the benefits of African botanicals. Rooibos and honeybush are natural sources of antioxidants that help protect the body's cells against oxidative stress. The blend is naturally caffeine-free, making it suitable for both peaceful mornings and relaxing evenings. The addition of calendula not only contributes a subtle floral note to the composition but is also traditionally valued for its properties that support the body's natural regenerative processes.

Packaging: African Earl Grey Piag Tea is packed in an elegant tin that will decorate any kitchen. The beautiful design was created by illustrator and designer Katarzyna Korzeniowska. Every tin is labelled and packed by hand. Everything we do, we do with love.

African Earl Grey – Where the African Sun Meets English Elegance

Sometimes, when we set out to create a truly exceptional blend, our minds are filled with countless ideas. We never know whether you will be ready for them or whether they will appeal to you. African Earl Grey was no exception.

Some flavours are born of tradition. Others come into being through the courage to unite what is separated by thousands of kilometres and two distinct cultures. African Earl Grey is precisely such a meeting. It is an invitation to a journey where the warmth of the African earth intertwines with the timeless elegance of the British tea-drinking ritual. Are you ready for this journey?

On one side, we find rooibos and honeybush—plants that mature beneath the South African sun, imbued with the tranquillity of vast landscapes and the rhythm of nature, which has taught patience for centuries. Their natural sweetness is soft, warm, and comforting.

On the other side appears bergamot—the hallmark of the classic Earl Grey. Its fresh, citrus aroma has symbolised refinement, subtlety, and the art of celebrating everyday moments for generations. It is bergamot that brings a touch of European elegance to this African composition, not by overpowering it, but by gently setting it into a delicate trance, straight from the rhythms of African tribal dances.

This blend was created with the belief that opposites do not have to compete with one another. They can complement each other. Sweetness can exist alongside freshness, simplicity alongside refinement, and tradition alongside the courage to create something new.

Our intention was to show that the most beautiful things are born where different worlds and cultures meet. The meeting of the African sun and English elegance has created an infusion full of harmony. We wanted to offer you a moment of peace, mindfulness, and the simple pleasure that comes from the ritual of drinking tea.

If You Enjoy Discovering More – Curiosities for Tea Connoisseurs

Although we call African Earl Grey a tea, technically it is not one.

Rooibos and honeybush come from two different South African shrubs and have nothing in common with the tea plant (Camellia sinensis), from which black, green, and white teas are made. That is why this infusion is naturally caffeine-free while still offering remarkable depth of flavour and aroma. In this sense, African Earl Grey is a beautiful exception to the classic definition of Earl Grey—it preserves the blend's signature citrus character while telling the story in an entirely different language.

It was bergamot that made Earl Grey one of the most recognisable tea blends in the world. Interestingly, the fruit itself is far too sour to be enjoyed fresh. Its greatest treasure lies in its peel, from which an exceptionally fragrant essential oil is extracted. This oil gives the infusion its distinctive fresh, citrus-floral character, inspiring tea blenders for nearly two centuries.

African Earl Grey proves that the same iconic bergamot aroma can shine not only in a traditional black tea, but also in the warm, naturally sweet embrace of rooibos.

If You Enjoy Stories About Tea:

Although African Earl Grey brings together flavours from different corners of the world, all of its ingredients are united by one extraordinary theme—light.

Rooibos and honeybush ripen beneath the blazing African sun. It is the sun that gives them their natural sweetness, warm amber colour, and gentle character. In many African communities, light has always been far more than a natural phenomenon—it has symbolised life, community, and hope. Each new day began with the first rays of sunshine, reminding people of the world's endless renewal.

For centuries, the golden petals of calendula have been associated with the sun throughout Europe. They were traditionally planted beside homes as a symbol of prosperity and the warmth of family life. Their blossoms, opening at dawn, became an emblem of faithfulness to the light and an enduring joy of living. Bergamot, in turn, brings freshness and brightness to this blend. Its vibrant citrus aroma has added elegance and lightness to classic tea blends for generations—like the first morning sunbeam streaming through a window.

It could therefore be said that African Earl Grey is a meeting of different expressions of light: the light that ripens beneath the African sky, the light that blooms in golden flower petals, and the light hidden within the fresh fragrance of citrus. Each element tells its own story, yet together they create a harmonious whole—calm, warm, and beautifully balanced.

It is no coincidence that, in many cultures, light also represents hospitality, kindness, and openness towards others. It dispels darkness, invites people to gather around the same table, and reminds us that life's most beautiful moments are those shared with others. Perhaps that is why a cup of tea has become a symbol of togetherness—a simple gesture with the power to bridge the distance between people.

In Africa, there is a philosophy that expresses this idea with remarkable simplicity: Ubuntu. It teaches that a person becomes fully themselves through the presence of another human being, and that the strength of a community is born from kindness, mutual respect, and a willingness to share what we have.

If this philosophy resonates with you, we warmly invite you to visit our blog. There, we explore the wisdom of Ubuntu and explain why an ordinary cup of tea can become something far greater than an everyday drink.
